Paul Delaroche (1797-1856). French painter.
If we look this work more carefully we see that the true protagonist of the composition is the Executioner and not Lady Jane Grey. Not only for the standing position not set back from the woman, but also for the tights binding up a bit much the hips and thighs, and for the extraordinary care taken in painting the fatal hands that will handle the ax. Usually we don't think that academic painting can present strong erotic content hidden behind sublimated forms. Just to give an example to my readers: the French painter Jacques Joseph Tissot, a celebrated genre painter.
