RICHTER

Gerhard Richter (1932-). German painter.
Stained glass window for the Cologne Cathedral. Is there an artist who would not wish to operate in such an environment? I think not. By chosing a simplified pattern (is an infinite number of square tiles of colored glass) there was no doubt that the operation could be wrong. It is just the kind of abstraction that appeals to me, isn't it? Yet I am hesitant. Personally I am very careful in my judgements, especially  when it comes to an artist who has achieved global success, also financially. Richter have been and continues to be too varied, too versatile, even eclectic, not to raise some perplexity.

Cheat1

Would you like to live in this building? I do not. This horrible "thing" dates back nearly  half a century ago, yet the architect (Moshe Safdie) has continued to design more terrifying architectural objects, because his professional studio has received and continues to receive commissions from every corner of the planet. It seems that people are happy to spend enormous sums for such rubbish... or maybe the whole project is part of a much larger and less accessible project. Among the latest is this relized in Singapore (city that is becoming a sort of carnival  just like Shangai). A kind of tapered container (amphibian or air) deposited on the roof of the three skyscrapers following a catastrophic tsunami. The saddest thing is that a shit-artist cannot influence people's behavior, fortunately, while a shit-architect has this extraordinary power!

VILLA WAGNER I

There should never be surprised by anything, right? Even in this case. In the '70s the Austrian state or its directors let Villa Wagner fall into the hands of Ernst Fuchs. The result is that he could do what he wanted. He turned it into a museum to hold his works. Now Villa Wagner is the "Ernst Fuchs Museum" and is part of every sightseeing tour in Vienna. Fuchs had the Villa at a dirt cheap price (but has been restored, they say!) and now his incredible filth are sanctified, and people believe that!
I invite you to look at these pictures where you can clearly see the jarring contrast between the magnificent stained glass by Böhm and the gilded stucco decoration by Wagner, and right below the works of this "artist".
